Health Screening
GMAR teamed up with Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare to provide an opportunity for GMAR members to find out their health status. Each year, nearly 1.3 million people die prematurely in the United States from conditions which can be prevented or delayed. A Health Risk Assessment (HRA) can help you to avoid becoming one of these statistics.
Participants completed a HRA questionnaire and then came to the GMAR office on May 19th for clinical measurements. They have now received an individualized personal report.
There will be another health screening held at GMAR on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
The questionnaire consists of 40 personal health and lifestyle habit questions. The clinical measurements (which will take approximately 10-20 minutes) include blood sugar, cholesterol (HDL and LDL), body fat, blood pressure, etc. Lab work is gathered with a simple finger stick.
Once the assessment is processed, the individual report and original questionnaire is mailed to the home address. These assessments are completely confidential...reports are discussed only with the participant and the information is considered a medical record of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare.
Participants could choose:
1) Just the health assessment for $40.
2) The health assessment and individual phone consultation with a Wheaton RN Wellness Coach for $55.
To receive the most accurate results, participants needed to fast for 12 hours and abstain from alcohol for 72 hours. Socks and/or pantyhose need to be removed for the BMI scale.
So, why is wellness important for you and your family?
It’s important to be aware of our health risks, not only for our well being, but for the well being of our children. For example…if you have a history of cancer in your family you should start getting screenings at age 40 rather than age 50 since you may have quadruple the chance of being diagnosed with this form of cancer in your lifetime due to your parents health history. Wellness is also important because staying well can save you money. Most importantly wellness can save your life.
