Chairwoman's Message

Dear GMAR Member,

The end of summer is upon us. Summer’s heat has brought us a cool market, so hopefully with this end we’ll see the beginning of a warmer fall market. The summer’s end also brings: 1) Back to school for many; 2) Fall football filled with Packer and Badger games; and 3) The GMAR dues bills. I’m happy to report that for the 5th straight year the GMAR’s dues will remain unchanged.

A key component of your dues bill is a $35 contribution to RPAC. It’s a small investment to keep at bay higher fees, taxes and more government interference in how your business operates. As you know, 2010 is a huge election year and your RPAC donation goes to support pro-REALTOR® candidates and incumbents who understand the important benefits of a strong real estate market. Thank you for your participation and investment in your profession!

If you are working with sellers and buyers with homes located in the areas of our market that were hit by floods this summer, please check out Government Affairs Director, Marne Stuck’s article on resources you can share with your clients about municipal actions relating to the flooding.

Back by popular demand, the GMAR is holding another Shredfest for members on Wednesday, September 15th. ProShred Security (an insured and bondable company) will once again be in the GMAR parking lot to accept your old, outdated business documents. Due to the popularity of this event, it is necessary for you to register. Please email Judy Huschka by the end of the day Thursday, September 9th, and let us know how many boxes/bags you expect to bring. Each member is limited to 10 boxes/bags.

Last spring I attended a focus group of young REALTORS® who expressed an interest in having short, quick educational programs on timely issues. Within a few weeks the GMAR staff started scheduling “Hot Topic Brown Bag Sessions” to keep you up-to-date on the latest industry information and give you the opportunity to ask in-depth questions. So far, we have had two sessions, and we are planning several more. I’ve personally had the pleasure of attending one of these sessions and it was great. Each session has been very well attended and the instructors are top-notch. Make sure to check out the next one being held on September 9th on Procuring Cause Issues and register via email.

Speaking of education, the 2010 WRA Convention is coming up September 26- 28 at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Wisconsin Dells. Included in your Full Convention Pass are 4 continuing education classes (12-hours). Remember you will need a total of 18 hours of CE for your license renewal this year, so take advantage of this great opportunity. Check out WRA’s Two-fer Conventional Special at their website.

As we look forward to the coolness of fall may we look forward to a warmer selling season.

Thank you,
Julie Clarke
GMAR 2010 Chairwoman of the Board
